I know that No Excuses is coming up in a week, but MB and I have decided to begin 10K training this week. Well, I wanted to and asked her if she wanted to and she said yes, because she loves to indulge me. I want to hit the 10K training ASAP, because I want to be able to start the Half-Marathon training in time for Four Bridges in October.
So, the only problem with us starting the 10K training this week, however, is that yesterday, my family was still wiped out from time in the sun. We were all dehydrated and sick all weekend, so MB and I didn’t get to run yesterday. So, Day 1 needed to be today. The only problem with that, however, is that MB’s husband has Guys’ Night Out on Mondays and my PB has dance until 7:30, so we don’t get home and finish eating dinner and getting bedtime stuff finished until 8:30 or 9:00.
So, tonight, we decided to do our own things. She got an earlier start than I did (her husband actually called me and harrassed me into sending her the training information because he couldn’t go out until she got through on the treadmill), so she sent me her numbers and I had plans to match them.
MB’s numbers:
Total Time: 55:21
Total Distance: 3 miles
Total Pace: 18:27
That wasn’t really indicative of what she could do, though, because she had things going against her: Ankle pain, too high of an incline, late start on the training portion, etc.
So, again, I was planning to match her mileage so that we could be consistent with one another on that front; but talk about things working against you! Holy crap, did I have a crappy run!
First of all, as I mentioned, we didn’t get home and dinner eaten and kids into bed until 9:30 or so. Then I was messing with some music for the Dance Company and was watching the rest of House, so it was 10:00 by the time I got my happy butt out there.
I decided to run outside, because figured the treadmill would be too loud inside (I can’t wait until we buy a house). I figured at 10:00 at night, that it would be cooler, right? Well, a mile and a half into the run or so, I came to a corner where there is a bank that has one of those time/temperature displays. 77 degrees. 10:26 at night and it was 77 degrees! UGH.
Before even getting to the mile mark, though, I had a hell of a start
Around 7 minutes in, I bit it. Yes! My first fall! I stopped everything (iPod and timer) and sat on my ass for a few seconds, thinking that I would drag my sorry ass home. What I really was wanting was my cell phone so that I could call Cameron to come and pick me up (Jesse would have to stay with the girls); but I did not have my cell phone with me, so, I decided that I would have to walk back anyway, so I may as well just keep going.
Then, I had to pee. Luckily, as I was passing one of the elementary schools in the area, I saw that they had a port-a-potty and there was a break in the gate right next to it. Oh joy! Oh Rapture!
Empty bladder and I’m back on my way.
Then, my freakin’ mix messes up. Oh geeeeeeeeez!!!!
But, I just kept going. I finished up the training intervals and planned to run more, as the whim struck me, and to get to three miles, but by that time, my arm, leg and butt were hurting from my fall, so I decided to pack it in.
Still managed to do:
Total Time: 37:05
Total Distance: 2.27
Total Pace: 16:22
Training Time: 29:26
Training Distance: 1.29
Training Pace: 16:00
So, not great for the first time back out after the race, but hey, at that pace, I would have beat my Run With Nature time, so hey, I’m not going to complain. Heck, even the total pace would have let me do that, so, again, not complaining.
I just now have to get used to scheduling in one more run. 10K training is four times a week.
This also means that I really need to get my eating under control. I have known for some time that my diet is affecting my mood, my energy and my training. Now is the time to get serious about changing that.
