Okay, so, well… I did something a little different tonight. All this time, I’ve been freakin’ out over the fact that our times were kind of up and down and the fact that it was SO close to 49 minutes that I was just getting kind of frustrated. I wasn’t giving up, in fact, I was pushing myself as hard as I could, what with being sick and all -
…STILL!!!!! When will this throat thing go away? I called into work yesterday and slept until 12:freakin’:30 in the afternoon. It just needs to be done…
- So, I’ve been trying to keep my chin up about it all, knowing that it would all eventually shake out in the end, that we would get there, despite the fact that the numbers just didn’t seem to be coming down.
Well, we kinda kicked ass tonight. In fact, I am thinking that we’ve been kicking ass all along and I’ve just been a ditz with the numbers! I’ve been including our five minute warm-up walk at the beginning in with the training times. Why on earth would I do that???? Ideally, we’re not going to be walking a warm-up during the 5K. We’re going to warm up beforehand so that we can just run from start to finish.
So, tonight, I hit the lap reset after our warm-up and was looking forward to seeing a big difference in our training pace.
So, we do our thing and we’re doing pretty good and not dying too terribly much and as we’re reaching the house, I told her that I was going to have to really figure out the numbers tonight, because I’d reset the laps quite a bit. Also, I warned her that the numbers wouldn’t look too great, because since we were only walking for one minute tonight, instead of two, that was going to cut our time by six minutes, which would naturally cut our distance. We hadn’t gone as far at all.
MB: ”Will there come a time where we’re running more, to make up for that?”
ME: “Yeah, I think that was supposed to be tonight. I think we were supposed to run 8 intervals, not 6.”
So, we get inside and grab a water and talk to the husbands and we’re saying hi to the babies, when her husband finally asks how we did. I started to tell him what we’d been talking about on the way into the house. That I had to wait to really breakdown the numbers, but I think that we were supposed to do two more intervals than we did, blah blah blah.
MB: “Well, let’s check.”
So, we hop on the computer and find that yep - We were supposed to do 8 intervals, not 6.
ME: “I should have checked that before I came over.”
MB: “Well, you wanna go do it now?”
ME: “Want to?”
MB: “Yeah. Let’s go.”
So, we did. We went back out and ran another two intervals. I’m thinking we’ve reached the insanity portion of the training.
And now, I’m sitting here breaking down the numbers and initially found that our training pace was over 18 minutes.
A true WTF moment ensued and I swear, I almost cried. “How is that possible????”
Well, of course! That’s what happens when you still add the warm-up time into things! What was the point of resetting the laps, then? So, I rerun the numbers and here’s where we’re at:
Week 6, Day 1
Total Time: 45:24
Total Distance: 2.76
Total Pace: 16:25
Training Time: 31:56
Training Distance: 2.03
Training Pace: 15:43
If we were to run the 5K tomorrow, we’d do it in 48:55. Now I’m set to cry for a whole different set of reasons.
We’re doing it. Holy crap. This is freakin’ awesome.

And our kids are just so freakin’ adorable. We had the babies on the ground together. The Jelly was trying to teach their daughter how to crawl (Jelly-Jells is allllllmoooooosssssst there!) and their daughter was trying to teach The Jelly how to sit up (because she’s the Sitting-Up Champ!). At one point, their daughter tried to grab and eat Jelly’s cheek, so Jelly got her back by grabbing and eating her toes. It was so stinkin’ cute. I about died.
