Daring to Move Again

I went to Reno this weekend with a friend of mine.  She is also pregnant, due about a month and a half before I am.  (She will probably go two months before me, though, due to the history of her pregnancies.)  Anyway, she and I, along with my mom, went to an all-day crop for scrapbooking.  We both have the goal of getting our albums completely caught up before the babies are born.

We had a great time, despite the rude hostess at dinner Saturday evening, and the even ruder bellman on Saturday night.

I am not kidding, this guy was so over the top rude.  We had to keep calling the bellmen to come and help us with the scrapbooking stuff, because, hello?  Two pregnant women.  We can’t exactly schlep 9 bags of supplies (between the two of us) up and down four floors in a hotel, right?  So, we called the final bellman on Saturday night, after the crop and first of all, he took forever to get to the room, then he got there with the cart and tells my friend, “Okay, bring them over.”  (And she is more pregnant than me!)  So she did the pregnant walk and he then rolled his eyes and moved the bags himself.

Then he gets to the room and asks if they all go in our room.  They didn’t, since we had my mom’s stuff too, and they were in the room next to us, but I just told him to put it all in our room anyway because I just wanted him and his attitude gone.

After he unloads, he was totally obvious:  “Okay, there you go, 12 bags.”  He then said it another three times.  (The standard for tipping a bellman is sometimes considered to be a dollar a bag.)  He got a four dollar tip, and that was only by the grace of my mother, as I wanted to give him twelve cents.  The big jerk.

Anyway, we had a good time and are talking about going to the next one in September together, and bringing our husbands so they can play cards together while we’re scrappin’.

When we were leaving on Sunday, I thanked her for coming with me, adding that I had a great time.  She said likewise and that she has had a hard time making girlfriends to hang out with regularly.

The first thing I thought was “Damn, can I please not screw this one up?!”

Let’s try this again.
